With Super Bowl XLVIII just a couple days away, Forbes predicts that this year’s TV viewership will break the 2012 record of 111.3 million. I have noticed some pretty heavy advertising competition out there with companies releasing everything from commercial teasers to anti-super bowl ads. This year Fox set the Super Bowl ad price at $4 million for a 30 second spot, with about 111 million+ viewers that is about $36 per viewer in addition to the free millions of views they get via social media. Budweiser’s Puppy Love ad, released just two days ago, already racked up 24 million views!
This year advertisers really picked up their game, making their ads go viral by getting their ad banned or creating an anti-super bowl ad. Below, I picked out four of my favorite Super Bowl ads, whether they’ll be on during the game or not:
1. Newcastle Brown Ale – “Mega Huge Game Day Ad”
Anna Kendrick is seemingly upset about her beer commercial not being aired during the Super Bowl in this anti-ad. Whether or not this ad will be aired is still unclear.
2. SodaStream – “Sorry, Coke and Pepsi (Uncensored)”
SodaStream took a huge risk in this now banned commercial for mentioning Coke and Pepsi in the ad. A censored version will be aired on Sunday.
3. Kia – “The Truth”
Morpheus from The Matrix makes an appearance asking a couple to choose the red or blue key.
4. Axe – “Call to Arms”
Axe promotes its new product Axe Peace by averting conflict with love (AKA their product, men’s deodorant spray), while also promoting Peace One Day. This commercial has so many feels!
In addition to my list of favorites, there are a lot of great Super Bowl commercials. Each of them has gone viral within hours of their release this week. Which one are you looking forward to seeing on Sunday and rewatching on Youtube later?
