There have always been entrepreneurs in North Dakota. North Dakotans are, after all, known for their hard work ethic. But now, entrepreneurs have more support and resources to help get their ideas off the ground. For instance, larger companies such as Bobcat, KLJ and Sanford have been known to sponsor entrepreneurial events such as Startup Weekend, giving entrepreneurs the support they need.
In addition to support from corporations, entrepreneurs have received more resources due to organizations focusing on entrepreneurship. The following organizations allow entrepreneurs to network, tell their origin stories and help other entrepreneurs along the way.
1 Million Cups
Developed by the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, 1 Million Cups is a weekly event that educates entrepreneurs. The thought is that entrepreneurs can gather to share their stories and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee. Because we all know, entrepreneurs are often highly caffeinated and fueled by coffee, right? This event brings ideas and coffee together. Bismarck-Mandan and Fargo both host 1 Million Cups events each Wednesday at 9:00 am. During this time early stage startups can present their companies and ideas to an audience full of peers and educators as well as potential mentors and advisors.
